The village and fort of Mannshire is just slightly bigger than the village of Osbrook. During the war, the local castle was besieged by The Council and the surrounding village and wineyard were completely razed to the ground. The Grand Magistrate sees Mannshire as an important foothold, which is why, once the siege was lifted, several skilled craftsmen were brought over from Brynn to rebuild the village and winery.

The nearby Signal Tower was built by one of Aldor's rulers to quickly relay messages across the realm, but under governor Weber an Ancient Troll decided to make it their new home after slaughtering the garrison.
Trivia
* Unar is one of the survivors of the siege of Mannshire's fort, as he claims in conversations with the player. He also served the previous lineage of Mannshire's rulers, the der Reeds.
* Its possible that Hilda, Lotar and Frida are also survivors of the siege.
** Hilda is incredibly old and senile, so its very unlikely she would've been part of the party sent to rebuild the village.
** Frida can be seen mourning over a grave in the cemetery adjoining Mannshire's chapel, while Lotar drinks his sorrows away. Since a mourner and an alcoholic are of little use in reconstructing a settlement, it's likely they survived the siege while losing their families, which destroyed their psyche.
* A bottle of Elven Ice Wine can be stolen from the blacksmithing bailiff himself, at the risk of being asked by the guards. If brought to the bailiff, he will be unaware of the fact that the bottle was stolen from him.
* Stealing the Candelabrum from the Pawnshop isn't reccomended due to the larger distance between it and the bailiff's office, and therefore a larger chance of being stopped and checked by the guards.
*If a Bill is used up, it disappears completely.
*Bills cannot be split or merged, and funds cannot be added onto an existing Bill.
__TOC__
Brynn. The mere mention of it invokes images of freedom and affluence. Some people see it as a city of skilled craftsmen and industrious merchants, while others - a den of petty hagglers and crooks, where a purse full of gold is more valuable than a person’s life. Either way, there can be little argument about one thing - Brynn is the wealthiest Aldorian city and one of the most prosperous places on the western side of the Continent.

There’s a saying that the very air of Brynn makes people free: according to an ancient custom, anyone can become its citizen after living there for a year. As a result, the city has always been attracting people fleeing from serfdom, poverty, and hunger, many of them becoming permanent residents. After the recent war these streams of refugees turned into rivers, which flooded the city’s streets with peasants hoping to earn some coin for themselves and their families.

Description
History
It wouldn’t be true to say that Brynn survived the Strife unscathed - after all, the war actually started because of it. During his rule, the late King Etbert stripped Brynn of its status as a free city, making quite a lot of enemies in the process. The monarch’s death and the succession crisis, which followed afterwards, created a perfect opportunity for overturning this decision, and the Brynn elites did just that.

Brynn refused to recognize the authority of the Regent Queen, who became the next ruler, instead opting for an open rebellion. The royal governor was apprehended and executed without a trial, and the control was once again seized by the richest merchant families of the city - the Silver League. The age-long dispute between the local merchants and the nobility was temporarily set aside: they united against the common enemy, creating the Great Magistrate. They plan to settle for no less than overthrowing the existing order and rebuilding Aldor as an alliance of free cities, where kings exist only in fairy tales.

The Royal Council, which rallied around the Regent Queen, decided to take Brynn back by force. At first, luck was on the Council's side: the royal army managed to come out victorious in a few important battles and even reached the walls of Brynn. It seemed that the city was doomed, but the skillful leadership of Duke di Berro allowed the Magistrate to turn the tide and send the enemy fleeing.

The Magistrate got a decisive advantage, and only a sudden outbreak of the Crimson Plague prevented it from launching a counterattack. This never-before-seen disease gave a proper scare to both sides of the conflict and forced them into signing a truce. Soon the Plague ended as inexplicably as it began, but both the Council and the Magistrate decided to maintain the shaky peace and lick their wounds.

This moment of respite was used by the Magistrate to great effect: it invested a huge amount of resources into restoring Brynn, so now the only thing reminding of the brutal siege is scaffolding next to a few remaining breaches in the city’s walls. And yet, even though Brynn is well-prepared to repel external enemies, internal struggles can often be much more unpredictable and insidious...

Brynn is split into four parts:
Politics
Brynn is the Great Magistrate in miniature, its political conflicts being most evident in the city’s day-to-day life. There are three major factions competing for control over Brynn:

The Silver League
The Silver League used to be a mid-tier merchant guild. However, over the centuries it amassed great amounts of wealth and political power. The independence of Brynn, the creation of the Magistrate and the civil war which followed - these events were engineered and set in motion mainly by the highest circles of the League. The League’s cumbersome bureaucracy, although still effective, has lately begun to struggle with its responsibilities. To many of the League’s members it came as a surprise that not every war can be won with money alone, but this realization was long overdue. Ever since the previous burgomaster’s unsolved murder, the League has been led by Jeon Ballar - a descendant of the richest Brynn family, which made its fortune by trading in elven silk. His enemies often accuse him of currying favors with the Jacinth Kingdoms, and perhaps rightfully so, but no one can rival Jeon in achieving compromises and forming unlikely alliances. The existing status quo between the city factions can be attributed entirely to his efforts.

The Vanguard
The Vanguard is a large army consisting of the local nobility’s troops, mercenary bands, and the city’s militia. Created by the League in an effort to reorganize the army, the Vanguard quickly became a government within a government, deeply discontent about the overwhelming influence that the mechant estate has over the Magistrate. The competent and decisive actions of the Vanguard protected Brynn from being captured by the royalists, so now its military leaders firmly believe that their sacrifice and valor earned them the right to rule the country. The only thing preventing them from openly confronting the League is the money it supports the army with. The leader of the Vanguard is Duke Arno di Berro, a scion of an old family from the Bronze Isles, who happened to settle down in Aldor. Arno di Berro is an aristocrat in a true sense of this word, and, as expected of an aristocrat, he shows open disdain for republican ideals. Despite all that, he’s still ready to fight for the Magistrate with all the ferocity and courage he can muster...

The New Guild
The New Guild are the artisans of Brynn, its sweat and blood. Initially the city had numerous guilds for various crafts. Their influence was so great that over the years at least a dozen craftsmen assumed the post of Brynn burgomaster. This fact had been greatly annoying the merchant estate, so not long after the war began, they attempted to deal with the guilds once and for all. Using wartime needs as an excuse, the League merged all guilds into one, placing it under its direct control. This violation of the free craftsmen’s ancient traditions provoked an unrest bordering on revolt. The League was forced to concede, granting the Guild a certain freedom of action, which resulted in the artisan estate gaining more power than it had originally. The Guild is led by Grandmaster Denvar Brie - one of the best weaponsmiths in the city, a stern and overbearing person. He regards the League in its current state as a crowd of freeloaders living off the working people. All it takes is a snap of his fingers to put all city business on halt, something which he most likely plans to leverage for his own gain.
*Some NPCs will walk around their town on a fixed path, commonly from their homes to work in a shop or in the fields.
*If an NPC happens to block your path in a town, you can right-click him and select Swap position. This option is only available with town NPCs, you cannot swap positions with enemies or animals.
Each settlement belongs to a faction. Depending on your actions, different towns can offer different items for purchase at the town's shops and pay different prices for your items. See Reputation for more info.

More towns are going to be added in future updates - check out the Development roadmap.
Factions
Factions are political and military groups spread across Aldor that strive for control. After the death of the last king of Aldor, Etbert, the Grand Magistrate took control as the first governing body, in open rebellion to the regent Queen, but their rule is disputed by many. Each Faction controls several settlements and the nearby area falls under their influence as well.

Parts of the lore depicted below comes from before the Early Access release and might be subject to changes.

Council
The Council is a group of the most influential Aldorian feudal leaders, united around the regent Queen and her young son Verne – allegedly the legal heir.

Inora, King Etbert's last wife, married him several months before his untimely death. This marriage was a complete surprise for the entire court - even the nosiest gossipers were surprised by the news. The sudden death of the monarch which soon followed became the basis for the rumor that Inora had killed her husband – and her son Verne, born after the Etbert’s death, doesn’t have even a single drop of royal blood in his veins.

Nevertheless, there were plenty of people who believed the Queen. Thanks to her natural cunning and diplomacy, she managed to find many influential allies among nobles – who later formed the Council.

The backbone of the Council consists of two seemingly opposing groups. The first is the Etbert’s old guard – the loyalists who held important posts during his reign. They see Verne as the legitimate successor of the dynasty, which they faithfully served all their lives. The second group consists of those who fell into disgrace during the King Etbert’s rule. For them supporting Inora is a reliable way to regain lost influence and reintegrate into the court life.

However, all of them pursue the common goal: to put down the insurrection and destroy the rebels; restore the crown’s power throughout Aldor; and raise Queen to the throne.

Grand Magistrate
The Grand Magistrate is a union of city councils, rebellious aristocrats, as well as artisan and merchant guilds – all fighting for their independence from the royal court.

The roots of the Great Magistrate lie in the long-standing conflict of King Etbert and the city of Brynn. Having come to power, Etbert deprived Brynn of its free city status. This autocratic move earned him enemies among Brynn’s influential families. And all these years they waited for the right moment to restore trampled justice.

After the king died and Inora laid claims to the throne, Brynn’s city council unanimously voted to quit Aldor, if it would be ruled by an impostor. Surely, the burghers were somewhat deceitful – they weren’t going to tolerate any more power over themselves, and Verne’s unclear origin was just a good excuse. Many neighboring settlements, tired of feudal oppression, followed their example. This union was called the Grand Magistrate – since any decisions are discussed by representatives of all the member settlements.

Thanks to the rich treasury and the wide use of mercenaries, the Magistrate fought with the Council on an equal footing, not yielding even an inch of its land. The obtained status quo was finally consolidated after the outbreak of the Crimson Plague – frightened by the unprecedented illness, the parties declared a truce to curb the epidemic.

Taking advantage of the resulting respite, the Magistrate only grew in power, rebuilding everything destroyed by war and sending ambassadors abroad. This gave the Council another significant reason to call the Magistrate traitors – as they say, the Magistrate’s ties with Jacinth elves are much closer than is required just for commerce.

Gray Army
The Gray Army is a folk uprising that has recently taken on an enormous scale. The composition of the Gray Army is quite dissimilar – the majority are peasants and various artisans, but there are other groups as well; former brigands, clerics-in-doubt, broke feudal lords, as well as Magistrate and Council deserters.

For several years, the common people meekly endured all the war; they fought under the banners of the Council and the Magistrate, paid wartime taxes, watched lawlessness and violence, suffered from hunger and disease, and died – by thousands. However, the longer the war went on, the louder the grumbling became.

These moods were skillfully used by Nir – a man of unknown origin, and therefore even more mysterious and frightening. A former monk; runaway slave; criminal on the run; feudal lord, who lost his mind after losing his title – there are so many rumors regarding his possible past, the safest bet is not to believe any of them.

The philosophy of the movement is quite confusing and controversial – mainly because only Nir himself grasps it fully. The rest only has to interpret the scattered fragments of his statements – the so-called Words. The Gray Army considers immoderation and incontinence in all its manifestations to be the most important cause of all evil. Nir believes that the ability to find and keep a fine line is paramount, and only in this way people can protect themselves from corruption.

Due to the multiplicity and desperate courage, the Gray Army managed to occupy numerous territories, having won several settlements from the Council and the Magistrate. Now the Army is looking forward to the end of the truce – to finally finish off all those who deny their dogmas.

* Unar is one of the survivors of the siege of Mannshire's fort, as he claims in conversations with the player. He also served the previous lineage of Mannshire's rulers, the Vir (temp)
Shrines are interactable religious structures located within the world of Stoneshard. Several shrines appear in fixed locations on the map:

* two in the Brynn Cathedral, on each side of the apse
* one outside the Brynn citadel

Roadside Altars are shrines that are randomly placed on roads generated between settlements and, once discovered, will be marked on the Global Map as a minor Point of Interest. They are usually placed around the middle of the tile.

If playing an eligible character, the player can, once per day, pray to the Host and receive a Blessing.

Currently, only Jorgrim is excluded from this action.

__TOC__

When travelling through the world of Stoneshard, you will explore various enviroments. Thick forests, peaceful fields, flowing rivers, windy steppes, beachy coasts and rocky mountains.
Biomes
Biomes are map tiles that always appear with specific features unique to them. Biomes on the Global Map are randomly generated, but follow a certain gradient - the south will be warm steppe, and the north will be cold forests. These tiles can generate with certain features like Lakes or Rivers. Biomes can combine the features of other, adjoining Biomes which will be represented on the corners and sides of the tile.

Currently present biomes are;

Field
Fields are wide open areas with small groupings of bushes. This Biome is a good source of Herbs and Berries. Getting ambushed in an open Field is dangerous.

Fauna:

* Rabbits
* Birds
* Forest Vipers

Forest
Leaf and Pine Forests are currently the most varied Biome. A labyrinth of trees makes for an interesting place to hunt or fight within.

Forests are full of Herbs, various types of Mushrooms and Berries, along with Pine Cones and Acorns (in their respective forest variants) and Sticks.

Forests are home to a wide variety of fauna, and are where the respective animal's hunting grounds will be located.

Passive animals:

* Hedgehogs
* Squirrels
* Foxes
* Deer
*Birds
* Forest Vipers

Territorial animals:

* Boars
* Wolves
* Moose
* Bears

Steppe
Steppes are a warmer variant of fields. Different types of herbs can be found exclusively in the steppe, as well as unique variants of berries.

Fauna:

* Saiga
* Bison
*Gulons

Coast
Coastal tiles feature a strip of sandy beach with waves. Sticks can be found on the beach among other flotsam and debris, as well as occasional shells.

Coasts feature everything a player requires to survive - sea water to drink, crabs to eat, and sticks to cook said crabs.

Fauna:

* Crabs
* Seagulls

Mountains
Mountains are ragged, impassable tiles, and cannot be entered.

Sea
Sea tiles are linked to Coasts, and similliarly to Mountains they are impassable and cannot be entered.

Swamp (in development)
* A development screenshot was shared on Stoneshard Reddit, featuring a Swamp-like Biome.
* An old screenshot from the development version features the players standing in a swamp-like map surrounded by flying bug-type enemies.
* A recent teaser shared via Discord also shows several giant wasp-like hive structures.

Features
Each tile on a map can contain certain features;

Roads
Roads can be randomly pathed through most of the Biome variants, except for the mountains, coasts and the sea. They connect Settlements with each other, their Contract Dungeons and certains Points of Interest. Roads always go through the middle of a tile, and connect to the middle of their respective edges.

There are several road variants:

* Straight roads (only in cardinal directions)
* Curved roads
* T junctions; forks
* X junctions; crossings

Roadside Features
* Roadside Altar
* Abandoned Cart

Rivers
Rivers are several tiles wide, and sometimes have shallows on the banks. Crossing a river requires the player and any other entity to swim.

Where a River meets the Sea via a Coast tile, a small delta with several islands will be generated.

River Crossings
* Ford - forces the player to get wet, but is shallow enough to not require swimming
* Bridge - allows dry crossing of the river, can be wooden or stone, and is a few tiles wide.

Lakes
Lakes fill up most of the interior of their respective tile, and are roughly circular in shape, with a shallow region on its edge, and deep water in the middle.
__TOC__
