Dual Wielding is the mechanic allowing to use two one-handed weapons simultaneously. For a skill tree, visit Dual Wielding (skill tree).

__TOC__

Dual Wielding Basics
Dual Wielding requires no special training. To start Dual Wielding, simply equip a one-handed weapon into one of your weapon slots, then add another one-handed weapon into the other weapon slot.
* You can mix and match freely - two weapons of the same type, two weapons of a different type, two shields, or even two one-handed tools (ie. Crowbars).
* Equipping a one-handed weapon and a shield doesn't count as Dual Wielding.
* Equipping a Bow or a Crossbow with Ammunition or with Quivers doesn't count as Dual Wielding.
* You cannot dual wield two-handed weapons in any way.

Effects of Dual Wielding
Upon equipping a second weapon, your character will receive the Dual Wielding Penalty, a list of these negative bonuses:
<b>
Main Hand Efficiency         -25%
Off-Hand Efficiency          -50%
Cooldown Duration            +15%
Backfire Chance              +10%
Fumble Chance                +5%
</b>
This penalty is always active and cannot be removed in any way until you stop Dual Wielding.

Attribute Values
The Attributes section of your Character screen will start displaying two values on most of your Combat attributes (see image).

This is because the game handles bonuses from Weapons on a per-weapon basis. For example, when Dual Wielding a Footman Sword and a Recruit Flail, only the Footman Sword will get the Accuracy bonus, while only the War Flail will get the Accuracy penalty.

Hand Efficiency
The values you gain from the weapons are modified by your Hand Efficiency. The Main Hand Efficiency and Off-Hand Efficiency attributes affect how well you can handle your weapons while Dual Wielding, adjusting the damage and all offensive bonuses from the weapon wielded in the respective weapon slot. Both Hand Efficiency attributes start at 100%.

When wielding only a single weapon, your Main Hand Efficiency is at 100%, which is why wielding one Footman Sword will give you exactly +3% Accuracy.<br>But Dual Wielding two Footman Swords will not give you +6% Accuracy as you might expect. Instead, it's calculated like this:
* Main Hand: +3% Accuracy * 75% Main Hand Efficiency (the DW Penalty) = +2.25% Accuracy for the Main Hand.
* Off-Hand: +3% Accuracy * 50% Off-Hand Efficiency (the DW Penalty) = +1.5% Accuracy for the Off-Hand.

Similarly, if you increased your Main Hand Efficiency to 150%, a Footman Sword in your Main Hand would instead give you +4.5% Accuracy:
* +3% Accuracy * 150% Main Hand Efficiency = 4.5% Accuracy.

Finally, penalties on Weapons are also affected in the same way - using a Recruit Flail in your Off-Hand will give you smaller Accuracy penalty:
* -5% Accuracy * 50% Off-Hand Efficiency (the DW Penalty) = -2.5% Accuracy.

Attributes that are not separated into the per-weapon basis are unaffected by Hand Efficiency. For example, Footman Sword will always give you +2% Block Chance and +10% Skills Energy Cost penalty, regardless of your Hand Efficiency values or the slot where you wield your Footman Sword.

Skill bonuses vs. Dual Wielding
All attribute bonuses from skills, be it active or passive, are applied to both wielded weapons. Bonuses from skills are unaffected by your Hands Efficiency attributes. Examples:
* The Stance-based skill Hammer and Anvil from the Mace skill tree will add its bonuses to both your weapons, as long as one of your weapons is a Mace.
* The active skill Seize the Initiative from the Combat Mastery skill tree will add its bonuses to both your weapons.
* The passive skill Feed the Flames from Pyromancy skill tree will add its +3% Accuracy bonus to both your weapons.
* The passive skill Concussion from the Mace skill tree will add +5% Weapon damage bonus to both your weapons, as long as one of your weapons is a Mace.
* However, the Concussion's effect "Critical hits with maces apply their target with -15% Control Resistance for 3 turns." will only work when you deliver a critical hit with your Mace.
* The passive skill Honed Edge will only add bonus Bleed Chance when you attack or use an ability that uses your Sword. But the Bleed Chance bonus will then be applied to both your weapons.

Any item in the game can be thrown. The resulting distance, the amount of damage and type of damage depend on the thrown item’s weight and material. For instance, if you lob heavy stuff such as Moose Antlers at someone’s head, you’ll deal good damage as long as they are not too far away. A Pine Cone, on the other hand, is only good for attracting attention.

The damage for throwing any item is influenced by Perception, Strength, and Agility:
* Strength affects the the distance
* Perception and Agility affect the Hit Chance and Crit Chance

Item Throwing
Certain items have unique properties:

* By throwing a potion at your enemy, you can apply its effect for a quarter of its base duration.
* Clay and glass items shatter into pieces, dealing piercing damage and become destroyed.
* Breaking a bottle of alcohol or oil on an enemy greatly increases their flammability. On top of that, foul liquids getting into their eyes will make it hard to concentrate on combat.
* Highly flammable items (made from cloth or paper) will burn in fire. Pyromancers, watch your flames!
* A heavy enough item can trigger a claw trap or a pressure plate.
* The amount of noise generated by a thrown item depends on its weight and material. The sound of breaking glass will attract much more attention than a tumbling Acorn.
* It’s hard to throw Mugs without spilling their contents.
* Soft vegetables, fruits and berries burst when thrown.

Thrown Traps
Thrown Traps activate instantly after you throw them. Throwing a trap takes a turn.
There are currently six Thrown Traps in the game:

* Hunting Net - throws a net at the target. Has a high chance to apply Net. Triggers once. A Net torn by the target is thrown to the ground.
* Smoke Bomb - throws a concoction that creates a cloud of smoke that expands each turn in all directions up to 3 tiles away from the trap tile. Applies Coughing to all targets within the cloud. The smoke cloud also blocks Vision. The smoke cloud disperses after several turns. Triggers once. Leaves Empty Casing after triggering.
* Caltrops - hits the target's feet with small sharp spikes, dealing Piercing damage. Has a small chance to apply Confusion and Immobilization. Triggers once.
* Nistrian Flame Flask
* Spider Blood Flask
* Deathstinger Jar
* Pale Puffball
* Rotten Pale Puffball

Weapon Throwing
Weapon throwing uses Weapon Balance instead of weight and material, which combines item weight and its aerodynamic properties. The better the balance, the further and more precise a throw will be, and the more damage it will deal upon connecting.

Weapons that are good for throwing include:
* Daggers
* Axes (small ones)
* Spears (the pointy ones)

Weapons that aren't well suited for throwing include:
* Swords
* Maces
* Two-handed Weapons

Throwing a weapon repeatedly will quickly drain its durability.

Treatises are books that allows the players to unlock new Skills when read. Through Treatises you can unlock all possible skills on any single character. Some characters start with several skills already unlocked but others still locked. These characters will also have to unlock the remaining skills by reading the appropriate Treatise (1).

Sorcery skill trees are divided into several Treatises that unlock different parts of the skill tree. Even if you find a Treatise of a higher rank first (like the Geomantic Treatise III), you can't put skill points into those new skills until you also learn the skills from a lower rank Treatise (like Geomantic Treatise II) and put skills into them first (2).
<div><ul>
<li style="display: inline-block;">  </li>
<li style="display: inline-block;">  </li>
</ul></div>

Treatises can be found randomly in the dungeons or sold by the merchants Gerlot and Unar in Mannshire and another merchant in Brynn. Some Treatises can drop from specific enemies, for example the Pyromantic Treatise II drops from Bandit Pyromancers.

Traits are special mechanics given to player characters. Traits represent their owner's distinct features like going berserk in combat, exceptional sight or background in sorceries, and provide unique bonuses to player's Attributes & Stats or certain beneficial effects. NPCs do not have traits.

Each player character currently has one unique trait. It is currently unknown if there will be an option to learn more traits on one character.

One of the planned features is custom character creation (see the Roadmap), which suggests that players will be able to choose their starting trait.
