Price determines the amount of currency you have to pay to buy items from NPCs and the amount of currency you will receive from selling items to NPCs.

Base Price

An item's base price is displayed when you hover over an item in your inventory. This price reflects the value from the game files, for example the Cheese item will display a price of 21 gold. This base price is affected by item's Durability - if a Weapon or Armor is damaged, its base price is lowered accordingly. Therefore if you wish to learn an item's base price, you must first fully repair the item.

The displayed price also changes depending on the circumstances:

  • When the Trading window is opened and the item is in your inventory, the displayed price changes into the item's buying price, ie. the amount of gold you receive when you sell this item.
  • When the Trading window is opened and the item is in the NPC's inventory, the displayed price changes into the item's selling price, ie. the amount of gold you lose when you buy this item.
  • Both buying price and selling price is modified by the bonuses from your Reputation. Therefore selling items in a friendly Settlement is more profitable.
  • Both buying price and selling price is also modified by the NPC's preferences. You can talk to most NPCs and ask them which items they want to buy from you.
