Reputation is a measure of your acceptance by people. Mercenaries outside of the times of war were often happy to steal and kill in order to survive, so it's no surprise that the locals view them with suspicion. Each village keeps track of your deeds in the form of reputation and acts accordingly.
The reputation system will be subject to changes in the future updates.
Reputation types
There are currently two reputation types:
- Faction reputation
- Village reputation
You can access the information about reputation by opening your Journal (press J key) and switching to the Reputation tab.
Faction reputation
There is currently very little information about Faction reputation. As of Way Forward update, the Reputation Tab lists these Factions:
- Magistrate
- Council
- Gray Army
- Other
Current Local Map is in the area of the Grand Magistrate faction. The only in-game mention of Faction reputation is on the Heraldic Note. Using the Heraldic Note instantly awards reputation with both Osbrook and Mannshire, the two villages available in the current game version.
Village Reputation
All other reputation gains are always tied to a specific Village.
Improving reputation
Reputation changes through interacting with NPCs in their respective villages.
Examples:
- Finishing a contract from the village elders in time will increase reputation.
- Failing to finish a contract from the village elders in time will decrease reputation.
- Certain NPC dialogue options that are negative will decrease reputation when chosen.
Currently there are 6 reputation levels:
- Hatred (0 rep)
- Resentment (750 rep)
- Neutrality (1250 rep)
- Benevolence (2000 rep)
- Amity (2750 rep)
- Respect (4250 rep)
All starting characters begin at Neutrality level with 1625 points in both Osbrook and Mannshire. To reach Benevolence, two completed contracts are required. The reputation levels are indicated in the Reputation Tab by the colored progress bar, with different color for every reputation level. The reputation points are capped at 5000.
Reputation effects
Reputation affects buy and sell prices for all shops in the respective village and the quality of available items. The quality depends on the item's level. For example, if you wanted to buy a Wizard Staff, you need to reach the Respect reputation level in Mannshire before it starts appearing in the shop.
The following table shows how reputation affects the pricing and item level bonuses.
Reputation | Buying prices (shop pays you) |
Selling prices (you pay to shop) |
Max item level | Stock size (amount of items) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Hatred | -15% | +50% | -4 | no change |
Resentment | -5% | +25% | -2 | no change |
