It goes without saying that a staff is no match to a sword: killing an ambushing brigand with it would take a considerable amount of effort. But who said that taking a life is the only choice? Sometimes instead of trying to murder your enemy outright, it's better to daze or confuse them, knock a weapon out of their hands... In other words - buy yourself some time to make a run for it, rather than sticking around for an unfair fight...
The staff's advantage lies in its cheapness, the ease of learning, and the abundance of moves that you can perform with it. I'll explain some of them in greater detail below...
