Then a small group of people separated from the main army. Immediately, they headed towards the walls, unfazed by the threat of the Aldwynnian archers, who by that time had killed a significant number of their fellow Nistrians. Clad in the lightest of garbs, they looked like easy prey to the Aldwynnians. The archers rained arrows down on them, attempting to avenge their fallen comrades. To the defenders' terror and shock, their weapons left nary a mark upon the impudent Nistrians, the arrows simply bouncing off their bodies, even though it was clear as day that they wore no armor.

Deep in the night the songs had finally ceased. By that time the Aldwynnians had realized the futility of their attempts to stop the ritual, silently awaiting the worst. And then impregnable walls shuddered, massive towers collapsed upon themselves, and chaos engulfed the city. Age-old buildings crumbled into dust, crushing thousands of innocents underneath. Huge fires burst out and there was no place to run, no escaping death. Some of the citizens rushed to the temple, placing their lives in the hands of their gods, only to be buried by the falling roof. When the earthquake finally came to a halt, and the Nistrians entered the city, there was no one to confront them. Such was the disastrous fall of the city of Aldwynn.
