Contracts & Tasks are quests in the world of Stoneshard. All Quests are automatically tracked by the game, you can check their status in your Journal at any time. Clicking an entry in your Journal will set it as your active Quest and the current objective step will be displayed in the top left section of the screen while adventuring.
Main Quest
Main quests track your progress through the game's story. Your character starts the game with the main quest already active. Currently, in the Early Access, there is no available “Main Story” after gathering the caravan.
Escape the Dungeon is the main quest for the Prologue.
These are the main quests in Adventure Mode:
| Task | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gathering the Caravan |
|
Verren, my old acquaintance, has gotten himself into trouble and now needs my help. Before we can start working on his contract, we need to gather a caravan. Traveling through Aldor without one would be far too troublesome.
Luckily, Verren managed to negotiate a deal with the Osbrook elder: if we complete a couple contracts for the village, he'll provide us with a cart and two horses. |
|
| Gwynnel's Answers |
|
We didn't manage to find Gwynnel: the house was a mess, and we barely have any cluse to follow, so for now his whereabouts remain a mystery. Looks like Gwynnel is highly interested in gathering every possible scrap of knowledge about Stoneshards. Verren wants to take advantage of this: the next step is to return to the Abbey of the Holy Revelation and look for more information in the archives he told me about. |
|
| Gathering the Caravan: Helping Verren | Verren has almost finished preparing our caravan. He could still use my help with a few things though. | Caravan | |
| Old Contract (Task) | During his misadventures in the abbey, Verren stumbled upon the corpse of a mercenary who had died attempting to cleanse the monastery under the contract from the Mannshire elder.
With the cult wiped out, Verren suggests we should claim the promised reward. Either way, it's worth a shot. |
Double the reward for the first contract. | |
| Caravan's Journey: the Rotten Willow | Verren thinks I should visit the Rotten Willow Tavern after I deal with the Mannshire contracts. Rumor has it, they're in need of mercenaries such as myself...

||
| Caravan's Journey: Denbrie | Sitting in the far west of the Brynn March, Denbrie is surrounded by dangers - there's work for me in the area, no doubt about that. Once I'm done with the Rotten Willow, it won't hurt to pay that village a visit.
Recommended level: 15 |
Contractors
Contractors are the persons that can give you quests and also the person you can talk to claim the reward or break the quest that you accepted. In Rags to Riches, there are 3 types of contractors that will give you different bonus if you claim your reward to them, they are:
- Town Elders - add more reputation to the local settlement (Odar, Knud, One-Eyed Wigmar).
- Captains/Sergeants/Craftsmen - add more crowns to the initial reward.
- Bailiffs/Brynn's Officials - add more reputation to Brynn.
Contracts
Village Contracts are the "official business" type of quests.
- They are always tied to a specific village or town and provided by the village elder, captain/sergeant/craftsmen and official bailiffs that stationed on that settlement.
- Before accepting a quest, you can ask for more information about it, such as: the mini-boss information, the dungeon location and mechanic/situation that might happened inside the dungeon, the time limit, and how much the contractor willing to pay for completing the quest.
- You can haggling for more Crowns, accepting the haggled quests will got you -50 reputation and sometimes the contractor will ask you to finish it in 1 day time limit.
- In Benevolence reputation, you also can ask for front payment, proximately a quarter of the total reward.
- Village Contracts have a time limit in which you have to complete it depending on your actions (haggling) or situations (Competition).
- If you fail to complete the contract in the time limit, the contract will be voided, you get no rewards and you lose some Reputation with the village.
- Contracts must be turned in to the village elder who issued it after completion.
- Completing a contract raises your Reputation with the village and always comes with a fixed reward in Crowns.
The objective may require you free a captive person, bring back quest items, cleanse the dungeon, or simply kill the leader or the entirety of the Dungeons. Sometimes you will be required to bring a proof of your deed. In Rags to Riches, the dungeons got overhauled and most of the quests are added more complexity or specific mechanics inside the dungeon that makes the quests more varied.
Contract Mechanics
Offered contracts are randomly selected from a list of possible Contracts each reset. Each contract is tied to a dungeon and will reset every 4 in-game days. Each elder have up to 3 contracts one after another. One of each type of enemy factions/dungeon
Each contract is tied to a specific Dungeon on the map. When you set a contract as your active quest, the Dungeon in question will become marked with a small red X on your Local Map. Until you complete a contract by turning it in to the village elder, you can enter the Dungeon as many times as you want. Completing the contract will seal the respective dungeon's entrance, so you will be unable to enter until the reset.
List of Village Contracts
These contracts can only be obtained in Osbrook:
| Contract | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Captive Emissary | The Magistrate's emissary assigned to Osbrook has fallen into the hands of a local gang. Such an important figure must be found and freed as soon as possible. | 495 415 Reputation |
These contracts can only be obtained in villages other than Osbrook:
| Contract | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cleansing Ritual | Within the Crypt lies an ancient altar, tainted by the unholy cult's sorcery. The only way to rid the tomb of evil is to perform a purification ritual using the relic I've been provided with. | 420 350 Reputation |
These contracts are generic and can be obtained from the elder of any village or town:
| Contract | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounty Hunt | I was told about a troublesome brigand gang that has taken up residence in the Bastion. Making my way inside and killing their leader should be enough to break them apart. | 340 290 Reputation | |
| Bandit Den | A gang has taken up residence in the Bastion, plundering every nearby trade route. I need to put an end to this by wiping them out. | 380 320 Reputation | |
| Underground Workshops | The bandits in the Bastion have begun forging their own weapons and armor in underground workshops. Destroying their operation will earn me a generous reward. | 380 320 Reputation | |
| Stolen Shipment | A gang of bandits has settled in the Bastion, brazenly raiding passing caravans. I need to head there and retrieve the important cargo they stole. | 420 350 Reputation | |
| Hostage Rescue | Some brigands have captured a resident of Village and are holding him captive beneath the Bastion. Rescuing him should yield a decent reward. | 340 - 380 290 - 320 Reputation | |
| Restless Crypt | There's a reward for taking out the cult leader - or whoever's taken his place - lurking in the Crypt. | 340 290 Reputation | |
| Undead Tide | Village is plagued by rumors of the undead overrunning Crypt. I need to head there and do everything I can to put every last walking corpse to rest. | 380 320 Reputation | |
| Stolen Grimoire | Many years ago, the Order sealed an unholy folio in the Crypt. I need to locate that book and bring it back to safety. | 420 350 Reputation | |
| Unholy Manuscripts | A warlock has placed unholy texts all over Crypt, using them to sustain a malevolent ritual. I need to get in there and destroy every necromantic manuscript I find. | 420 350 Reputation | |
| Ominous Light | On certain nights, Crypt emits an eerie glow. It's time to uncover what's causing it. | 420 350 Reputation | |
| Rumors of Bloodsuckers | Catacomb has become the lair of a bloodsucker horde. Slaying their leader will secure me a hefty reward. | 340 290 Reputation | |
| Echoes of the Plague | The high clergy seeks mercenaries willing to descend into Catacomb and retrieve any surviving medical records related to the Crimson Plague.
It's worth bringing back as many as I can - there's extra pay in it. |
340 290 Reputation | |
| Corpse Stench | A noxious stench rises from the Catacomb - most likely caused by the corpses piling up in its depths. I must descend into the catacombs and burn all the bodies before the decay leads to something terrible. | 380 320 Reputation | |
| Lost Relic | The Catacomb is the last known location of the relic the High Hieron seeks to reclaim. I must venture into the catacombs and do my best to retrieve it. | 420 350 Reputation | |
| Fate of the Scouting Party | Recently, a group of scouts went missing in the Catacomb. I need to descend into its depth and search for any survivors. | 380 320 Reputation | |
| Mysterious Disappearances | Disappearances near Catacomb are all too common. I must explore its catacombs and deal with whoever is behind it all. | 380 320 Reputation |
Tasks
Individual NPCs might offer you quests specific to their own life.
- The rewards for these requests can vary, from Crowns to Consumables and other items.
- Some tasks have time limits.
- Completing Tasks raises your Reputation with the Quest Giver's respective town or village.
Task Mechanics
Offered tasks are always the same. All tasks can only be completed once.
- When you select a task as your active quest, no marker will be displayed on your map.
- When you accept the Troll Hunt task, the Signal Tower Point of Interest will be permanently marked on your map until you complete it, even if you don't have Troll Hunt selected as your active quest.
- Some tasks might require finding items that can be only acquired as random drops, therefore completing some tasks might take a long time.
List of Tasks
The following Tasks can be found in Osbrook:
| Task | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lost Key | The Osbrook miller dropped his shed key somewhere in the fields around his mill. He promised me a reward if I manage to retrieve it. | Free bed and some items | |
| Forgotten Plane | Jurg the Carpenter refuses to share the story about the previous miller without being compensated first. Whatever he has to say, it seems to be connected to the brewery contract.
I agreed to run an errand for him in return for information: I need to find the broken-down merchant cart and retrieve the plane that was meant to be delivered to Jurg. |
25 Mead | |
| Bert the Merchant's Request | Bert the Merchant from Osbrook asked me to bring him a bison pelt and a pair of horns. | 700 100 Reputation | |
| Frid the Herbalist's Request | Frid the Herbalist from Osbrook asked me to bring him Agrimony, Fleawort and Spearmint, one tuft of each. | 100 Reputation 2 Healing Salves | |
| Hold the Tailor's Request | Hold the Tailor from Osbrook asked me to bring him a bear pelt. | 750 100 Reputation | |
| Important Report | Emissar Rickerd tasked me with bringing a report from Osbrook to Governor Weber in Mannshire. It's a matter of state importance - he told me not to break the seal under any circumstances, or I'll get in trouble. | 100 Antique Buckle Elven Ice Wine | |
| Jebar the Smith's Request | Jebar the Smith from Osbrook asked me to bring him three battle cleavers or home-made swords. | 150 100 Reputation | |
| Ram the Drunkard's Request | Ram the Drunkard from Osbrook asked me to bring him a bottle of brandy. | 25 Reputation Uncommon Fang Pendant |
The following Tasks can be found in Mannshire:
| Task | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deathstinger Infestation | The New Orchard is besieged by deathstingers, which have built themselves a hive in the southern part of the garden. The owner asked for my help in dealing with them. | 50 150 Pails of Cider Daytaler Stew Free Bed | |
| Stolen Wine's Always Bitter | The foreman at the Mannshire winery has sent me after a worker who fled with a shipment of wine.
My task is to recover the shipment and return it to its rightful owner. The thief's fate matters little, though the foreman would prefer that I persuade him to return to work willingly. |
250 100 Reputation Mannshire Fortified / 350 200 Reputation 2 Mannshire Fortified / 400 250 Reputation 3 Mannshire Fortified 4 Grapes Free Bed | |
| Dietrich the Smith's Request | Dietrich the Smith from Mannshire asked me to bring him five iron ingots. | 300 100 Reputation | |
| Gerlot the Merchant's Request | Gerlot the Merchant from Mannshire asked me to bring him moose and deer antlers, one pair of each. | 450 100 Reputation | |
| Governor's Contract | The governor of Mannshire needs a mercenary for some special contract. I don't know any details yet, so it would be a good idea to head to Mannshire Castle and discuss it in person. | No reward, just leads the player to the Troll Hunt task. | |
| Herbalist for Mannshire | Josh the Priest would like Mannshire to have its own herbalist. Luckily, there's one living in the nearby woods, so Josh needs me to try and persuade him to move into the village. | 150 200 Reputation Josh now sells Herbs, has more stock size and better sell prices. |
| Task | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Troll Hunt | Weber vir Lecri, the Mannshire governor, offers a reward for the head of an ancient troll, a dangerous monster that made a lair out of the nearby signal tower. Most of the Mannshire garrison perished during a desperate attempt to liberate the tower - if the news of it reaches Brynn, Weber is done for. |
4000 1000 Reputation Jousting Cloak |
The following Tasks can be found in Brynn:
| Task | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peculiarities of the Brynnian Hunt | The merchant Giselbert of Brynn, in his drunken folly, somehow managed to capture a live boar while out hunting. By the next morning, the beast had regained its wits and began laying waste to his cellar.
|
||
| City of Opportunities | I was told that Bern, the quartermaster of the Brynn Vanguard, wants to see me. Should be able to find him in the Old Towers, near the entrance to the Armory.
I wonder what he wants. |
Recommendation Letter | |
| A "Fee" for the Official |
|
After reading Bern's recommendation letter, Keremit Lawe, the Guild's bailiff at the leatherworks, no longer opposes the idea of selling me an occasional item.
There's one condition though: I'll first have to pay him a "fee" of five hundred crowns. |
You can buy leatherworks from him in the evening. |
| Bribing the Bailiff | The audacity of certain Brynn officials has no bounds - not only are they unimpressed by the letter from Bern, but they also refuse to take bribes in gold.
Noel vir Roan, the bailiff of the Carpentry Workshop, will not settle for less than precious gems: a good-sized ruby should buy me access to some of the gear they make for the city. |
You can buy woodworks from him in the evening. |
| Task | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| City of Gold & Corruption |
|
Upon seeing the letter from the Vanguard's quartermaster, Giles vir Ivet, the bailiff of the Blacksmithing Workshop, kindly agreed to sell me a few surplus items they might have.
The only thing he requires in return is three bottles of elven ice wine. |
You can buy blacksmithing goods from him in the evening. |
The following Tasks can be found in Rotten Willow Tavern:
| Task | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|
| Task | Steps | Description | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| From the Cradle to the Grave |
|
L'Owcrey, the occultist from the Rotten Willow Inn, promised me a sizable reward if I head to the Burial Cave and retrieve an ancient artifact - the Bone Cradle. While I'm there, he wants me to investigate the fate of his acquaintance, a mage named Venemist, who was also looking for that relic. | 4000 |
